QC Businesses: Help Prevent and Solve Crimes; Install CCTVs PDF Print E-mail

For the employers, CCTVs are a very useful instrument for many reasons. If properly installed, they are very useful in crime prevention and solution within and around business premises. They can also be instruments for monitoring efficiency in workplaces. These are among the many reasons why, in Quezon City, a business establishment is required to have CCTVs installed in its premises before it can apply for a new or secure a renewal for its business permit.

This requirement is mandated by Ordinance no. SP-2139, series of 2012. The ordinance has been fully implemented since 2014. Establishments applying for a renewal of permits this January 2017 are reminded that they should be complying with this requirement.

Covered by this requirement are banks, shopping malls, gasoline stations, supermarkets, money changers, 24-hour convenience stores, schools, colleges and universities, fastfood and quick service restaurants, car dealerships, and high-risk establishments (jewelry and pawnshops, money couriers and money wire transfer operators, hotels and similar establishments, games and amusement (Pagcor) places, night clubs and supper clubs, ktv bars, resto bars and similar establishments, health clubs, spas, massage parlors and other business establishments considered high risk). The implementing rules define “high-risk” as those establishments with daily monetary transactions averaging Php 50,000 and/or those transacting with an average of 200 clients/ customers daily.

Read through the implementing rules in this website, for a full understanding of requirements.
The following are other reasons why installing CCTVs are good investments for your business:

• CCTV can protect employees, in case of false accusations by customers.
• The cameras can improve the feeling of security of both employees and customers.
• They can help prevent employee theft, and aid in solutions if it happens.
• Watching CCTV recordings may give management better ideas on how to improve work place productivity and increase client satisfaction
• The footages can give you an idea of how to streamline your business and ensure your employees enjoy their work.

According to an evaluation by the PNP of reports from January to June 2014, 87% of crimes in Metro Manila were solved when committed in places with a CCTV, compared to only 62.5% in places without them.

The study also saw a success rate of 58.18% when it came to crime prevention in places with a CCTV, versus 41.8% in places without them.
