|HIV Program for Young Key Population (YKP) in Quezon City, Launched|
February 17, 2017 - QC Government thru the City Health Department and in cooperation with the Division of City Schools and the Department of Health launched the “HIV Program for Young Key Population (YKP) in Quezon City” at the Bulwagang Amoranto, Quezon City Hall.
The city contributed to the campaign with the development of an age-appropriate HIV education module for GRADE 8 students, this being already part of their MAPEH curriculum. The QC-LGU will issue the corresponding reference materials on HIV, AIDS and STDs to the 46 PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS in Quezon City. The initiative is supported by a local school board resolution and a proposed ordinance filed in the City Council.
The materials will include printed references (handbooks/ pamphlets) and an HIV-101 video, an educational audiovisual that will serve as guide for young students to increase their awareness on HIV. The said materials will be made available to the Grade 8 students next school year, 2017-2018. The campaign is also supported by UNICEF, UNAIDS and the Shell Foundation.
