|Housing for Families of Persons with Disabilities (PWD)|
March 1, 2017 - The Quezon City Government in partnership with the Department of Social Workers and Development (DSWD) and Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation, Inc. signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a Housing for Families of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) at Barangay Escopa III. Signing the MOA are Mayor Herbert M. Bautista, DSWD Sec. Judy Taguiwalao, Gawad Kalinga QC Head, Mr. Justin Cruz and District 3 Rep. Bolet Banal. Present as witnesses are the District 3 Councilors, Meralco representatives, and beneficiaries of the housing project.
This 18th Bistekville project has an initial thirty six (36) housing and will have a total of 130 units when completed. The project is located inside the NVRC_DSWD compound at Barangay Escopa III encompassing an area of 5,083 square meters.
Bistekville 18 is the first ever housing project of the city to specifically benefit PWDs. Through this housing project, Mayor Herbert Bautista strengthens the city’s commitment in ensuring the efficient accessibility and equal opportunities for PWDs. Quezon City has an existing ordinance, SP-2085, S-2011, organizing and establishing QC-Persons with Disability Office in accordance with Section 40(B)(1) of RA-7277 otherwise known as the "Magna Carta for Persons with Disability"
The city government’s socialized housing program won the Galing Pook Awards in 2014 and was chosen by Pag-ibig Fund as one of its Top 20 Developers in the same year. Quezon City also has its resettlement programs for families living in danger areas, such as those living along the water ways whose lives are often at risk during floods and typhoons.
