Trading recyclables for cash was initiated by the EPWMD in 2008 under the Batang QC Eco-Savers Club. The project aims to promote the practice of waste segregation and recycling in public elementary and high schools.

Recently, the EPWMD expanded the project to include school backyard composting and value-added gardening methods in schools to be managed by the students themselves. In February and March last year, the department conducted orientation on composting technologies to focal persons in public high schools in coordination with Prof. Armando Basug, a faculty of the UP Integrated School and TESDA trainer in Horticulture.

The department also assisted QC public schools in managing their Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs).
