Mayor Herbert M. Bautista, together with other city officials and representatives of national agencies, inaugurated Bistekville 15 Housing project in Barangay Sauyo.

Tadeo Palma, Secretary to the Mayor, said Bistekville-15 is a mixed development housing project which was built on a land bought by the Quezon City Government from a private company. The project included not only the construction of housing units but land development as well.

According to the Housing Community Development and Resettlement Department (HCDRD), Bistekville-15 consists of 585 three-storey walk up socialized condominium units, 36 two-storey walk-up loftable socialized condominium units and 156 three-storey walk-up economic condominium units, or a total of 777 housing units.

The beneficiaries of Bistekville 15 are on-site informal settler families (ISFs), members of the Alyansa ng Maralita sa Novaliches (ALMANOVA) and the city's public school teachers.

Part of the project is the PhP94 million Local Government Financial Assistance Fund (LGUFA) for Micro Medium Rise Building (MMRB), which was downloaded from the DILG to QC-LGU. The DILG has allocated the fund for the construction of the socialized housing component of the project under the concept of People's Plan.

The project has estimated total cost of about PhP 460 million.

The socialized loftable units and the non-loftable socialized condominium units, which both have an average floor area of 21 square meters can be taken-out/ refinanced through housing loans under HDMF (PAG-IBIG) or SHFC. The economic condominium unit, which has a floor area of 30 square meters, is intended to be taken-out with HDMF.

To maintain a livable community, the beneficiaries of the project said they will abide by Estate Management Plan, which is part of the post-development program of the City Government.

Beneficiaries

Some of the beneficiaries of Bistekville-15 were informal settler families who have been residing in the area since the 1990s. These include the 42 families who belong to the first batch that moved to the new housing units in June.

Cristy Alcayde said that their living conditions have improved since they moved to their new home. "Ang hirap dati noon. Ang liit ng aming daanan at puro putik pa," she recalled. Cristy, who lives with his husband and three children, said she is now happy. "Ngayon, maayos na at masaya kami ng aking pamilya."

For young couple Mary Grace and Varen Berdejo, it was a blessing. Mary Grace said their newborn daughter will have the chance to grow up in a better environment.

Cherel, wife of beneficiary Mansueto Inicial Jr., said they felt more secure with their new home and all the facilities in their new community.
