Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs) for paying Renewal Property Tax thru Mobile Money

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. What is Quezon City Real Property Tax?
Real Property Tax (RPT) is a levy on real properties, such as land, buildings, machineries and other improvements affixed or attached to real properties not specifically exempted under the law. It accrues on the 1st of January and is payable in one or four equal installments. RPT installment payments must be made on or before the end of each quarter, making the first installment due on or before March 31.

Through a partnership with USAID under the Scaling Innovations thru Mobile Money (SIMM) project, the Quezon City Government developed a system that now allows real property taxpayers in this city to pay their RPT thru mobile money.

2. How does the mobile money system work?

Mobile money generally refers to payment services performed from or via a mobile device such as a cellular phone. Instead of paying with cash or check and coming to City Hall to do it, a real property taxpayer in QC can use a mobile phone to pay for the RPT.

Right now, the Quezon City Government has tapped the services of G-Xchange, Inc., the mobile commerce arm of Globe Telecom, Inc., using the GCASH facility, to enable the easy payment of RPT via mobile phones. Later on, the LGU will tap other capable telecommunications providers for their own mobile money services, to expand the scope of cellular phone users who will be eligible for this system.

QC tax payers may register to GCASH by dialing *143# on their cellular phones, select GCASH, Register, and provide the necessary information. Taxpayers may also apply at Globe Centers or GCash kiosks around the city.
