Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte thanked the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for reopening the U-turn slot at Dario Bridge, saying it would greatly ease traffic flow in the area.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo kay MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos sa muli niyang pagpayag na buksan ang U-turn slot sa Dario Bridge,” said Belmonte.

“Malaki ang maitutulong ng hakbang na ito para maibsan ang mabigat na daloy ng trapiko sa lugar at mapabilis ang biyahe, hindi lang ng mga taga Quezon City kundi pati na rin ng taga ibang lungsod,” she added.

The Mayor said she would ask the QC Task Force on Transport and Traffic Management to deploy traffic enforcers to assist MMDA personnel to monitor and man the traffic in the said area.

It can be recalled that the MMDA earlier turned down Belmonte’s request to reopen the said U-turn slot after it was closed to give way to the EDSA Bus Carousel.

But Abalos voluntarily ordered the reopening of the U-turn slot after studies on the flow of traffic showed that opening it would improve the movement of vehicles and reduce travel time in the area.

Also, Belmonte welcomed Abalos’ move to request the private contractor of the Common Station connecting the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) along EDSA to move back fences in their work area to open more lanes for motorists.

“We are closely working with the MMDA to find ways to decongest our roads, especially now that more people are now going out to work and for other purposes,” Belmonte said.
