Widely considered one of the first class villages in Quezon City, the locale known as Barangay Damar was initially envisioned as a piggery and as an experimental farm for poultry, then later as San Miguel Village, with homes primarily for executives and junior officers of the San Miguel Corporation.

The subdivision was later renamed Damar Village, an acronym of Doña Margarita Roxas Soriano, the mother of the late Col. Andres Soriano. Initial developments included concrete roads with curbs, gutters, sidewalks and underground drainage system, parks with flowering shrubs, shady and fruit bearing tress, its own water system with deep well, pump and reservoir with a capacity for supplying 60,000 gallons of water, later supplanted by NAWASA and currently by Maynilad Water Services.

Today, Barangay Damar with its clean, well-maintained roads, parks and other open spaces can rightfully be alluded to as a first class subdivision of Quezon City which its residents and the City Government can truly be proud of.
