On January 18, 1962, by virtue of City Ordinance No. 62 – 4953 – in accordance with the provisions of Republic Act No. 2370, also known as the barrio charter, Bgy Damayan was recognized as the 26th Barrio of Quezon City.

Imbued with the self-dedication to public service, the members of the first Barrio Council pulled their resources together and left no stone unturned in working for their community’s progress.  At that time, it was the only barrio in Quezon City to issue both class A & B Residence Tax Certificates to its constituents and to the adjacent barrios.  It also constructed a garbage receptacle of hollow blocks near the public market and made representation with the Quezon City Council for its streets lights improvements and for the repairs, repaving, and paving of its main thoroughfares.  Foremost among its projects was the construction of a multi-purpose Barrio Hall inaugurated on November 4, 1962 in the presence of City Officials.

Such achievements are reflected in the many modern-day projects for the benefit of the community of Barangay Damayan.
