ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Through the vision of Mayor Joy Belmonte that Quezon City residents are world class and must participate in global issues, the Sustainable Development Affairs Unit (SDAU) was established by virtue of QC Executive Order 35 series of 2019, signed last October 2019, becoming the first LGU to establish a unit in recognizing the importance of realizing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The unit aims to align the programs of the Quezon City Government to the Global Goals by implementing local innovative solutions and investing in synergies across the city’s departments, external agencies, and partners. It promotes the use of international standards like establishing baselines, identifying and measuring internationally accepted metrics/measures. Furthermore, it oversees that all departments champion the goals set by the United Nations as well as align these to NEDA’s AmBisyon 2040.
The city has chosen the following goals to focus on: SDG1: Zero Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The lady mayor has also special initiatives aligned to SDG #5: Gender Equality, SDG #8 Decent Work & Economic Growth, SDG#13 Climate Action.
The Sustainable Development Affairs Unit also serves as the secretariat of the Quezon City Food Security Task Force (QC FSTF). The QC FSTF’s “GrowQC – Pagunlad sa Pagkain, Kabuhayan at Kalusugan” program has been created to take on the challenge of increased hunger, deteriorating health & wellness, and loss of livelihood, brought about by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
