QMC MASTER REDEVELOPMENT PLAN
The Quezon City local government has approved Master Redevelopment Plan for the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) to restore green spaces and expand its services, create more and upgraded areas for relaxation & recreation, and opportunities for economic exchange. This project also aims to promote green and sustainable development in the City and increase the biodiversity in the park.
QMC REPURPOSING PROJECTS
QMC management had a repurposing project, utilizing existing trees that have already been harvested for other purposes or have reached the end of their lifecycle. These trees that have fallen due to natural causes or have been removed for other reasons were repurposed into furniture like tables and chairs, a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach that promotes the efficient use of natural resources. Using reclaimed wood in furniture can also raise awareness about the importance of recycling, repurposing, and sustainable practices in the broader context of environmental conservation.
BEEKEEPING AT THE PARK
Beekeeping at the park supports the QMC management’s advocacy to promote environmental sustainability and conservation as they recognize the critical role of bees in maintaining the ecosystem. QMC is surrounded by many native plant species, where bees play a crucial role in pollinating these plants, ensuring their survival, and contributing to the overall ecological balance of the park. Beekeeping can help maintain or increase the bee population, which benefits the park’s native flora.
VERMICOMPOSTING AT THE PARK
Vermicomposting activities of QMC management could help the park with waste reduction, soil health improvement, educational opportunities, cost savings, biodiversity support, and an alignment with environmentally friendly practices. In this initiative, employees collected a significant amount of organic waste such as grass clippings, fallen leaves and food scraps from park visitors. This compost can be used as a natural fertilizer to enrich the soil in the park’s gardens, flower beds, and green spaces. Through vermicomposting, QMC helps foster a healthier and more sustainable environment for nature and park visitors.
