QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES – February 21, 2025 – In observance of the National Heart Month and National Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Health and the Quezon City Government provided free comprehensive health and wellness assessment services for residents of Barangay Loyola Heights through the PuroKalusugan.

PuroKalusugan ensures that every resident receives the best healthcare services they deserve. Health risk assessments including blood pressure (BP) monitoring, body mass index (BMI) calculation, fasting blood sugar (FBS) testing, cholesterol screening, and personalized health check-ups with healthcare professionals were offered.

Services such as maternal health, and early cancer screening are provided for free to promote a comprehensive approach to preventive healthcare, helping individuals identify potential health risks early and adopt healthier lifestyle choices.

Alongside these health assessments, the event also featured interactive activities promoting TED – Tamang pagkain (proper nutrition), Exercise, and Disiplina (discipline) that encourage sustainable healthy habits that contribute to heart health and cancer prevention.

Participants also enjoyed a Zumba session that engagingly promoted physical activity, while a live cooking demonstration showcased how nutritious meals can be prepared affordably using local ingredients. Kadiwa booths were set up to feature fresh, locally sourced produce, supporting both healthy eating and local farmers.

Secretary of Health Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa highlighted the significance of proactive health measures, stating, “Preventive healthcare is essential in reducing the prevalence of heart disease and cancer. Through initiatives like PuroKalusugan, we are ensuring that communities have access to vital health information and services that can improve their quality of life.”

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte added, “A healthier city starts with residents that are aware, educated, and have access to essential health services. Through programs like PuroKalusugan and our calorie labeling ordinance, we are empowering our citizens to make informed food choices that support a healthier lifestyle and their long-term well-being.”
