Need to Know: On December 30, 1954 the cornerstone-laying ceremony was officiated by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Egidio Vagnozzi. Designed in Neo-Romanesque style by Maximo Vicente Jr, the church features colorful stained-glass windows that effectively soften its prominent height and verticality.
The center of Carmelite devotion to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel was established in Manila on 1953. The Irish Carmelite friars acquired a 17,155 square meter property along Broadway St. originally from the estate of Doña Magdalena Hemady.
The Shrine became the first Minor Basilica in the Diocese of Cubao and the 15th in the Country on November 30, 2018.
