The Quezon City Government, led by the QC Health Department (QCHD) and in partnership with the Barangay Nutrition Committees and various city departments, has launched the Barangay-Based Supplemental Feeding Program (BBSFP) — a community-based nutrition intervention fostering children’s growth and development.
Under the program, QC public schoolchildren aged 5-9 with a wasted Body Mass Index (BMI) classification during baseline school weighing receive nutritious supplementary meals to improve and prevent nutritional decline.
To strengthen family and community engagement, the city government employs various strategies to sustain participation and maximize outcomes by conducting parent orientations, providing incentives, and integrating values formation, personal hygiene, and nutrition education sessions throughout the implementation period.
This initiative is part of the Barangay Nutrition Program Ordinance (City Ordinance SP-3242, S-2023) and the city’s efforts to promote healthy eating habits and proper hygiene practices.
It also ensures that children receive adequate nutrition during critical periods of growth, reducing their risk of becoming stunted.
As of June 2026, a total of 14,181 children were identified and endorsed to the barangays for possible enrollment in the feeding program.
