The Quezon City Government, through the QC Health Department (QCHD), provides various maternal health programs and services from pregnancy to childbirth and postpartum period that aim to ensure the health and well-being of QCitizen mothers and children.
Under the prenatal care program, QCitizen mothers are eligible for the following services that can be obtained at QC Health Centers and Lying-in clinics that further safeguard maternal and fetal health:
- Check-ups and consultation
- Simple laboratory (Complete Blood Count (CBC) and urinalysis)
- Screening and management of pregnancy-related conditions (diabetes, hypertension, and sexually transmitted infections, including syphilis, Hepatitis B, and HIV) for early detection and timely management of infections.
- Micronutrient supplementation (iron with folic acid, Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS), and Calcium Carbonate) to prevent nutritional deficiencies.
- Tetanus-diphtheria (Td) immunization and deworming
- Fetal monitoring through Leopold’s Maneuver
- Oral examination and prophylaxis
- Nutrition Counseling
Apart from strongly promoting the facility-based delivery for a safer childbirth, the Public Lying-in Clinics of the city also offer free delivery services for women with low-risk pregnancies, ensuring a safe, accessible, and quality facility for expectant mothers within the community.
For the Postnatal Care that supports the mother’s recovery while promoting their own and their newborn’s overall health and well-being, the following postpartum care services are made available:
- Regular postpartum consultation and check-ups
- Home visits for mothers who are unable to return to the health centers.
- Promotion of exclusive breastfeeding
- Relactation management for mothers who experience difficulties in breastfeeding
- Counseling on healthy lifestyle practices
- Administration of essential micronutrient supplementation (assists mothers’ recovery, enhances nutritional status and iron levels, and boosts breast milk production).
- Promotion of continuous immunization
- Family Planning counseling and provision of Family Planning methods
In case the required services are unavailable at the city facilities, patients will be referred to the appropriate level of care through the Health Care Providers Network (HCPN).
Centered on mother and child care, the QC Maternal Health Program is part of the city’s efforts to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.
