The Quezon City Government, in partnership with the Resilient Cities Network and the Temasek Foundation, has launched the OASIS (Openness, Adaptation, Sensitization, Innovation, and Social Ties) Schoolyard—a nature-based, people-centered, and climate-responsive place for the community.
Aiming to promote sustainable environmental practices and community awareness, the OASIS Schoolyard features cozy central seating, comfortable shaded benches, and play and learning elements designed by students, teachers, and other stakeholders.
It also has a playground with a slide, monkey bars, and a tunnel, set up on sand and wood-chip bedding. Through the OASIS project, students are protected from intense heat, flooding, and other effects of climate change.
The very first OASIS Schoolyard in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia is located at the Diosdado P. Macapagal Public Elementary School (DPMES). Apart from DPMES, the city government is also set to put up an OASIS Schoolyard on Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School (MLQES) and Placido del Mundo Elementary School (PDMES).
This initiative is part of the city’s efforts to build exclusive and accessible spaces, engage students in experimental learning, and strengthen people’s participation.
