The Quezon City Government in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) and Jhpiego Philippines has administered an Intensified Community-Based Cervical Cancer Screening Program to QCitizens by providing free cervical cancer testing in selected SouthStar Drug outlets.

Assisted by the QC Health Department’s partner, Women Workers for Health Empowerment (WHEN), female QCitizens ages 30-49 years old will receive a free high-performance Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing. The result of the sample determines whether the patient will undergo thermal ablation intervention– if positive, and will be referred to a partner hospital– if a lump was still visible in the cervix.

Through the program, the city’s unwavering dedication in protecting women’s health and well-being as well as its contribution to DOH’s National cancer control program were being demonstrated.

The expansion of the program in selected pharmaceuticals from the existing cervical cancer screening activities conducted in health centers and lying in clinics make it more accessible and convenient for all. With this, women empowerment and a healthier society is achieved.

In 2024, 16,897 women from Quezon City were screened for cervical cancer. This year, the city alloted P 28 Million for this initiative to be able to screen 20,000 women.
