The Quezon City Government, through the QC Health Department (QCHD), has established several laboratories that conduct a range of medical tests and address various health concerns.
Molecular Laboratory
With the support of Megaworld, Ayala Foundation, Boysen, and Solaire, the city’s molecular laboratory was initially used to process coronavirus disease (COVID-19) samples from community testing centers.
At the height of the pandemic, the facility processed 500 to 1,000 tests per day with a turnaround time of only one to two days.
Apart from COVID-19 tests, they also process other medical tests transported from other health facilities, including Tuberculosis, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and Dengue.
The three-storey building located in Brgy. Teachers Village East also has its own area for data encoding and sleeping quarters for the workers assigned to the facility.
The QC Molecular Laboratory is a level three accredited lab by the Department of Health (DOH).
Water testing laboratory
The local government has opened its own water testing laboratory to ensure the safety and quality of the city’s drinking water.
Managed by the Drinking Water Quality Monitoring Committee, the facility regularly conducts microbiological examinations of drinking water from the regulatory sampling points, health facilities, schools, and small businesses, such as water refilling stations and ice plants in the city.
Committed to providing clean and safe drinking water to all QCitizens, the city has enacted Ordinance SP-3346 S-2024 mandating the regular monitoring and testing of water sources across Quezon City.
Drug Testing
The drug testing facility offers fast, high-quality service for substance abuse prevention and regulatory compliance.
In addition to the molecular, water, and drug testing laboratories, regular laboratory services are also offered at city health centers, and clinical laboratories are established in each district.
These are part of the city‘s strategy to establish its own laboratories that are capable of conducting tests independently of private labs and identifying and processing other infectious diseases for research.
