The Quezon City Government, through its Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD) and Small Business and Cooperatives Development and Promotions Office (SBCDPO), has partnered with the ANTHILL Fabric Gallery of Cebu in launching the QC-ANTHILL Textile Circularity Hub located in Payatas Controlled Disposal Facility (PCDF).
With its theme “Unang Habi: Weaving Circular Futures Together,” the hub promotes community-based upcycling and circular economy fashion and education.
Serving as a place where residents can transform textile waste into a new and useful product, the facility is built with a showroom and production area equipped with weaving looms and cutting machines.
This initiative further extends to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), by engaging them in sorting the textile waste.
20 QCitizens have also taken part in the first batch of the Circularity Hub’s Weavers-in- Training, a three-month comprehensive training program that involves sewing, weaving, and other sustainable techniques. Under the program, participants are set to receive daily compensation, with ten of them going through a six-month probation period before being offered full-time employment.
ANTHILL Fabric Gallery is a social and cultural enterprise that aims to preserve traditional weaving practices and provide livelihood for women by collaborating with weaving communities nationwide.
The QC Textile Circularity Hub is part of the city’s efforts in creating inclusive livelihood opportunities for QCitizens and a step towards a zero-waste, sustainable, and green city.
