Athletes and artists, and vocational course students will soon be qualified as Quezon City scholars, as the city government has begun expanding its scholarship program.

In the coming years, the two new scholarship categories will be added to the current scholarship brackets for senior high schools, tertiary students (those under academic, youth leaders, economic, and specialized courses), and post-graduate students.

“Karapatan ng bawat kabataan ang de-kalidad na edukasyon kaya’t hindi tayo nag-atubiling palawakin pa ang kasalukuyang scholarship program ng lungsod para mas marami pang mag-aaral ang makatanggap nito,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

Currently, the city is finalizing the suitable courses for athletic and arts scholars. The YDO is also establishing the guidelines for vocational scholars. Students who qualify for athletics and arts scholarship can receive a P10,000 tuition grant with P4,000 stipend per year, while those who will take up vocational courses can get a P6,000 tuition stipend from the local government.

Aside from the additional programs, the city has also increased tuition subsidy and stipend for each scholarship program for School Year 2021 to 2022. Masters/ Doctorate student scholars will also receive a P30,000 thesis grant.

The city is also looking into subsidizing the admission of over 20,000 students for next year, which is nearly 4,000 more than this year.

According to QCYDO OIC Lyn Dividina, aspiring QC scholars will be required to send their applications and requirements thru a link posted at the Quezon City government and YDO Facebook pages. Soon, applications will be sent thru the QC E-services as the city will integrate the scholarship program with the QCitizen ID.

“On November 22, we will start accepting applications for our scholarship program. Kailangan mag-register muna sila sa QCitizen ID at ipasa iyon kasama ng iba pang requirements sa provided link. Sa mga susunod na buwan, maisasama na ito sa ating e-services upang maging angkop sa new normal at para maging mas mabilis din ang pagpo-proseso ng mga dokumento dahil online na,” Dividina explained.

Aspiring scholars should be Quezon City residents; enrolled, registered, and accepted at a recognized educational institution; and should meet all the requirements and qualifications needed for the program being applied for.

The complete list of scholarship categories, priority courses, requirements and qualifications, and applications can be accessed on the Quezon City government website and Youth Development Office facebook page. For concerns/questions, interested applicants can also call YDO at (02) 8988 4242 loc 8707/8738 or send an email at qcydo@quezoncity.gov.ph.
