The Quezon City government offers free lectures and other services for breast cancer, as part of the city’s commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“It is the city government’s responsibility to ensure that our constituents receive all the healthcare services they need and all the necessary information that will empower them”, Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

All 65 health centers in the city’s 142 barangays are giving free lectures on breast cancer. Women of reproductive age can also receive free lectures teaching them how to do breast self examinations.

Lectures are also conducted by city and barangay health workers in our communities.
Women that notice lumps or distortions in their breast during a self examination, are asked to go to the nearest health center for proper assessment.

Doctors will then refer patients to the Quezon City General Hospital to book a schedule for an ultrasound or mammogram.

Aside from lectures, the city is also conducting free visual inspection with acetic acid wash (VIA), an early diagnosis method used to detect the lesions that can be an indicator of cervical cancer.

According to City Health Department head Dr. Esperanza Anita Escano-Arias, the said services is already given to women under each health center’s family planning program.

“These programs are all part of our services for women. All year round po ito. Libre at wala po itong bayad. Kailangan lang magpunta sa pinakamalapit na health center sa inyong lugar,” Arias explained.
