The Quezon City government has entered into a partnership with a multi-sectoral organization to further strengthen the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Mayor Joy Belmonte led the signing of the memorandum of agreement along with key officials of Kilusang Kontra Covid (KilKoVid) Alliance on Thursday.
Headed by Dr. Tony Leachon as Chairman and Atty. Dot Gancayco as President, KilKoVid is a coalition of concerned citizens and organizations which aims to complement and supplement the COVID-19 plans and strategies of the local government.
“We need all the help that we can get in the fight against COVID-19. The assistance offered by the alliance is very much welcome as it will help beef up the current efforts of the local government,” said Belmonte.
“Sa ating pagtutulungan, tiwala ako na unti-unti tayong magtatagumpay laban sa pandemyang ito,” she added.
“In this time of crisis, unprecedented in our history, the civil society should step up to the plate to help the government in resolving this huge problem to give hope, courage and inspiration to our people,” said Dr. Leachon.
The agreement entails a united and concerted action under a “To Teach, To Heal, and To Lead” strategy with an aim towards achieving “Kaligtasan, Kalusugan at Kabuhayan”.
Under the agreement, KILKOVID will help the local government in its mission of reducing the COVID-19 cases by engaging the private sector as partners in this endeavor. The private sector is also expected to provide assistance to residents so they can have a means of livelihood during the pandemic.
Each alliance partner will aim to contribute their resources to achieve the 3Ks in the areas of education, fund mobilization, logistics and livelihood, among others.
Leachon is optimistic that the partnership with the Quezon City government will provide the much-needed sparks and ignite a vibrant movement that would help constituents improve awareness in fighting the ferocious virus.
“Our role is to teach , to heal and to lead with Mayor Joy Belmonte and other generous partners in this advocacy,” he said.
The alliance partners of KILKOVID include the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas-Quezon City Chapter (Pres. Alfredo Roxas), Rotary International District 3780 (Gov. Johnny Yu), UP Women Lawyer’s Circle Inc. (Pres. Arlene Ureta), Philippine Academy of Family Physicians-National (Pres. Marivic Cruz), Philippine Academy of Family Physicians-Quezon City Chapter (Pres. Flora Marin), Philippine College of Physicians-Quezon City Chapter (Pres. Melvin Hacutina), Urban Green Communes (Pres. Juan Carlo Tejano) and Celebrity Sports Club Inc. (GM Arturo Tibay).
