The Quezon City Government is set to celebrate its first-ever Mooncake Festival on Sept. 28, 2025, at the city’s Chinatown District in Banawe, featuring a full day of cultural and community festivities.

This festival, organized through the Quezon City Tourism Department in partnership with the QC Association of Filipino Businessmen Inc., aims to highlight Filipino-Chinese heritage while promoting local tourism and community participation.

The Mooncake Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is a centuries-old tradition observed across Chinese communities worldwide. It is a celebration of family unity, gratitude, peace, and prosperity. Bringing this tradition to Banawe, a home to a vibrant Filipino-Chinese community, underscores the city government’s broader commitment to cultural diversity and inclusivity.

Among the festival’s highlights is the unveiling and cutting of a giant mooncake, which is expected to set a record as the biggest mooncake display in the Philippines. The festival also aims to set a record for the largest free community-based Traditional Dice Game in the country.

QCitizens can enjoy activities such as a lantern parade and a show featuring creations from schools and barangays, cultural performances, and a Mooncake Bazaar showcasing Filipino-Chinese cuisine and products. Interactive attractions such as a wishing tree, a Chinese calligraphy station, and a photo and 360° booth will also be open to the public.

Recognizing the importance of honoring traditions that have become part of Quezon City’s identity, Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized the value of celebrating the Mooncake Festival.

“The Mid-Autumn Festival is not just about food or customs, it is also about bringing people closer together. By marking this special occasion here in Quezon City, we honor the rich contributions of our Filipino-Chinese community and show that our city is a place where every culture is welcomed and celebrated,” Mayor Belmonte said.

The Quezon City Government invites residents, students, barangays, and visitors to be part of this milestone celebration, which combines tradition, culture, and festivity in one historic event.
