The Quezon City government received accolades from various national government agencies, including the 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Quezon City was one of five Metro Manila cities to receive the said honor from the DILG, along with Muntinlupa, Caloocan, Mandaluyong and Navotas.
“We are humbled and honored by the DILG’s recognition. This would further inspire the city government to work even harder to further improve our governance and enhance the delivery of services to our constituents,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
Quezon City also won the award in 2019 before it was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Established by virtue of Republic Act 11292, the Seal of Good Local Governance is an award, incentive and recognition-based program for all local government units (LGUs) to continually progress and improve their performance in the following areas:
Financial administration; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity program; health compliance and responsiveness; programs for sustainable education; business friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace and order; environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture and arts; and youth development.
Also, the city government bagged several awards from the Department of the Interior and Local Government-National Capital Region during the 2022 Urban Governance Exemplar Awards.
Vice Mayor Gian Sotto received the following awards on behalf of the city government: Local Council for the Protection of Children Ideal level of functionality, Functional Peace and Order Council, High Functional Anti-Drug Abuse Council, Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children Ideal Level of functionality, MBCRPP LWM Cluster Top Performer, MBCRPP ISF Cluster Top Performer and MBCRPP Moderate Compliance.
The QC government also obtained plaques of recognition for being top performers under the Liquid Waste Management Cluster and under the Informal Settler Families Cluster and for its exemplary performance in the delivery of services for children in 2019 and 2021.
It was likewise recognized for being moderately compliant to the 2022 assessment of LGUs compliance with Manila Bay Clean-up, Rehabilitation and Preservation Program; and for getting a functionality rating in the 2022 Local Peace and Order Council Performance Audit covering 2019 and 2021, and an ideal rating in the 2022 Local Council for the Protection of Children Functionality Audit.
Earlier, the Quezon City government emerged as the No. 1 city in the Philippines in terms of local revenue generation for the fourth straight year, and for this reason, obtained a Hall of Fame award from the Department of Finance-Bureau of Local Government Finance (DOF-BLGF).
Belmonte and City Treasurer Edgar Villanueva received the award from the DOF-BLGF during a ceremony at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
For Fiscal Year 2021, the local government earned P22.9 billion in revenue from real property tax, business tax and other taxes, such as amusement, transfer, and contractors, among others .
The honor was the fourth in a row for the QC government, gaining it a spot in the Bureau’s “Local Revenue Generation Hall of Fame”, a new award category for LGUs that have consistently been one of the Top 10 National Awardees for three consecutive years.
