The Quezon City Government is providing urgent assistance—including safe and affordable housing—to families affected by a landslide that struck Don Vicente, Sitio Veterans, Barangay Bagong Silangan on the morning of July 23.
Triggered by days of heavy and continuous rainfall, the incident caused a portion of land to erode, displacing three families and damaging two vehicles. The affected area has long been classified as a non-buildable zone due to geohazards, and residents had previously been advised by both the barangay and city government to relocate. The site is also privately owned by a subdivision, making the construction of retaining structures unfeasible.
“Our primary concern is the well-being of our constituents,” said Mayor Joy Belmonte. “Through our housing program and coordinated response, we are ensuring that affected families receive both immediate assistance and long-term support.”
As part of the city’s emergency response and recovery efforts, the displaced families will be relocated to QCitizen Homes in Barangay Payatas—Quezon City’s rental housing program that provides safe, disaster-resilient shelter at a subsidized rate of only ₱800 per month. The families are expected to move into their new homes by Monday, July 28, 2025. Until then, they are staying with their neighbors.
Immediately after the incident, the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) secured the site and cordoned off the damaged structures to ensure the safety of nearby residents. Meanwhile, the City Engineering Department is working closely with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to conduct a comprehensive geotechnical assessment of the area and determine appropriate next steps.
This response forms part of Quezon City’s broader disaster preparedness and risk reduction strategy, which includes preemptive evacuation advisories, the strict enforcement of no-build zones, and the provision of safe and affordable housing options for vulnerable families.
