Mayor Joy Belmonte will serve as a summit rapporteur in the upcoming United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) on February 26. She will discuss key take-aways and concerns raised during the Cities and Regions Summit, an associated event of the UNEA 6.
The mayor will represent the cities, international organizations, youth, and other subnational governments in UNEA-6, that gathers the world’s top decision-making body on the environment.
Mayor Belmonte will stress the need for financial investments to enable cities and local authorities to achieve their ambitious climate targets. According to the mayor, socio-political barriers hinder this from happening, affecting the implementation of green and sustainable initiatives.
Mayor Belmonte is currently in Nairobi, Kenya to attend the UNEA-6 Cities and Regions Summit. She is joined by Coun. Vito Sotto Generoso, and Kristine Lea Sy-Gaon of the QC Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD).
