Barangay San Jose was created by Presidential Decree No. 86-A dated September 11, 1970 and signed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The population of Barangay San Jose during its conception was about 5, 712 persons.
Upon its creation, Brigido Velasco was appointed as Barangay Captain together with Kagawads Joseph Tan, Luis Magsalin, Eduardo Zamora, Mariano Diaz, Atty. Diokno, and Mr. Magpantay.
Barangay San Jose lies at the southern foot of Mr. Kalbayog.
