Long before the establishment of Quezon City itself, the area of Barangay Sto. Cristo was already known as Bago Bantay. During that time, Bago Bantay was part of Caloocan City. Old accounts say locals of the past frequently saw heroes like Andres Bonifiacio and Melchora Aquino along the rice fields of Bago Bantay.
In 1960, Quezon City had barrios established all throughout its jurisdiction, in accordance to the new Barrio Code (Republic Act 2370). Through Ordinance No. 61-4718, the Quezon City Council made Sto. Cristo a separate barrio.
