Quezon City can now host local and international sporting events following the inauguration of four modern and first-class facilities at the Amoranto Sports Complex.

Mayor Joy Belmonte led the inauguration of the facilities together with officials from the QC government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) over the weekend.

Also present at the event were acting Vice Mayor Coun. Alex Bernard Herrera, City Administrator Mike Alimurung, Councilors Imee Rillo, Egay Yap, Irene R. Belmonte, Nanette Castelo Daza, and SK Federation President Councilor Noe Dela Fuente, QC department heads, barangay officials and employees, and district action officers.

Belmonte led the inauguration and inspection of the 3,500-seat Amoranto Sports Arena, which can host local and international competitions.

The new facilities also include an Olympic-size swimming pool with 10 lanes that can be used also for local and international swimming meets.

The Mayor likewise inaugurated a multi-level parking building that can accommodate big vehicles, including buses, of participants and guests.

The open tennis court was also inaugurated, which is a part of the planned Indoor Sports Facility where various sports events will be housed, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, billiards, table tennis, and darts.

Aside from hosting local and international events, Belmonte said the modern facilities will help the local athletes reap more accolades for the city.

“Makikilala na ang Quezon City not just for being the City of Stars but also as the Sports Capital of our country. Iyan ang aking goal — to promote, provide and create outstanding athletes here in the city but we cannot create champions without first-class facilities,” she stressed.

The facilities can also be used by the general public, barangays and employees of the QC government for their sporting events, Belmonte added.

Those interested may check the swimming pool’s availability for training via 0919-4472324 or (8) 3742593. The city government is finalizing the rates for those who want to use the pool for practice or group training.
