In the early 50’s what would become Barangay Amihan was a vast expanse of cogon and a variety of shady trees where only few urban residents settled. With the onset of the newly developed area in Project 3, the trees and cogon grasses where intermediately spruced and weeded to give way to the residential homes and other infrastructure.
On September 21, 1974, under Presidential Decree 557, the President ordered the recognition of barangays created and existing in Quezon City pursuant to PD 86 and 210. All existing barrios in Quezon City were converted into barangays. Pursuant to PD 557, Hon. Norberto I. Amoranto, then Quezon City Mayor, ordered that Barangays E. Rodriguez, Quirino 3-A, Duyan-Duyan, Claro, and Amihan shall exist and operate as basic political units.
