In 1972, a group of informal settlers from Fort Bonifacio ventured into an area under the jurisdiction of Barangay Commonwealth. Upon thorough research, they discovered that this area was covered by the “Payatas Estate” so they created proposal to separate Zone 108 from Barangay Commonwealth, took their fight to the court to be recognized, and became Barangay Payatas in 1976.

This is when the development of Barangay Payatas began. Streets were repaired and all the basic needs of the people were provided for.  Payatas Elementary School, the first school recognized by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, was founded in 1982.
