Need to Know: Barangay Socorro derived its name from the last word of the title of its Patron Saint, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Socorro means “help” in Spanish.

Barangay Socorro is bounded by Aurora Boulevard in the North; 15th Avenue in the East; Boni Serrano Road in the South; and EDSA in the West. It has an estimated population of 70,000 at present occupying an area of approximately 74 hectares. It is second only to Old Balara in terms of voting population in the entire 3rd District. Barangay Socorro is also best known for its famous landmark, the “Twin Towers”, said to have started construction in 1936, partially completed in 1937 and fully completed in 1938.
Socorro was created into a barrio on November 6, 1961 by virtue of City Ordinance No. 61-4883; as Barangay Assembly pursuant to PD 86 and P.D. 210 which was subsequently recognized as Barangay under P.D. 557 dated September 21, 1974 “Declaring All Barrios and Citizen’s Assemblies in the Philippines as Barangay” and by virtue of Executive Order No. 29 dated June 25, a975 of Mayor Norberto S. Amoranto issued pursuant to P.D. 557.
