To further promote healthy diet among QCitizens, Mayor Joy Belmonte formally signed the subgrant agreement with Vital Strategies Director Ariella Rojhani for the creation of a Calorie Labelling policy in QC.

The Calorie Labelling policy, which will be soon crafted by the city with public interest group Imagine Law, will require food establishments to add nutrition information on their menu. With this, customers will be knowledgeable on the calorie and nutrient content of the food or beverage they are about to consume.

Last year, Quezon City was chosen by the Partnership for Healthy Cities (supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Vital Strategies) as one of the recipients of the Technical Assistance to create a Calorie Labelling Policy.

Also present in the signing of the agreement are QC Councilors Aly Medalla and Bernard Hererra as well as Vital Strategies Senior Manager Farhad Ali.

Mayor Joy, Coun. Medalla, Coun. Herrera and representatives from the QC Health Department and Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD) are currently attending the Partnership for Healthy Cities summit in London, United Kingdom to further enhance Quezon City’s strategies to address the problem of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries.
