To further its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% in 2030, the Quezon City government has recently rolled out eight electric bus units in one of its routes.

The electric buses are running in Route 1 of the QCity Bus Service, which  travels from Quezon City Hall to Cubao and vice versa.

The electric buses have a 41-seating capacity with ample space to accommodate standing passengers and to ensure their safety and convenience. The units are also equipped with wheelchair ramps to accommodate persons with disabilities. Each unit contains handrails, fire suppression and emergency equipment, CCTV cameras, and smart televisions.

The electric QCity Bus units are being used in compliance with Republic Act No. 11697 otherwise known as the “Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act or EVIDA Law” which states that at least 5% of government owned or leased vehicles shall comprise electric vehicles.

Mayor Joy Belmonte reiterated that the city government is steadfast in its promise to promote environmentally friendly programs and policies.

“The official roll out of our electric QCity buses solidifies our commitment and dedication to environmental sustainability by transitioning to reusable energy,” the mayor said.

The project is aligned with the city government’s commitment to implement the Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan of Quezon City 2021-2050.

Last year, the city government installed solar panels on selec buildings in the city hall and will pursue to install more solar panels in public schools and hospitals.
