Leptospirosis is an infection caused by Leptospira, a type of bacteria commonly passed to people through mud or water that has been contaminated by the urine of infected animals, such as dogs, horses, goats, pigs, cows, and most commonly, rats.
The bacteria may enter the body through open wounds or the eyes, nose, and mouth. If not treated immediately, it may cause health problems in the kidneys, liver, and lungs, or worse, death.
TO AVOID:
- Use boots and raincoat if it’s unavoidable to wade through flood water when it’s raining.
- Maintain clean surroundings.
- Control the population of rats or other animals.
- Take anti-leptospirosis post exposure prophylaxis such as Doxycycline within 24-72 hours of flood water exposure.
SYMPTOMS:
- Fever
- Headache
- Shivering
- Vomiting
- Yellow tinge of the skin
- Redness of eyes
- Abdominal pain
- Muscle pain
- Diarrhea
- Rashes
Don’t ignore the symptoms of Leptospirosis. Get checked at the nearest health center or hospital.
Paano Makaiwas sa Leptospirosis
Ang Leptospirosis ay isang impeksyon na dulot ng Leptospira, isang uri ng bakterya na naipapasa sa tao mula sa putik o tubig na nakontamina ng ihi ng hayop na may impeksyon, tulad ng aso, kabayo, kambing, baboy, baka, at pinakakaraniwan, daga.
Maaaring pumasok ang bakterya sa katawan mula sa bahaging may sugat o sa mata, ilong, at bibig. Kapag hindi agad maagapan, maaari itong magdulot ng problema sa bato, atay, baga, at ang pinakamalala, pagkamatay.
PARA MAKAIWAS:
- Tuwing umuulan, lalo na kung hindi maiwasang lumusong sa baha, ugaliing magsuot ng bota at kapote.
- Panatiling malinis ang kapaligiran.
- Kontrolin ang populasyon ng daga o iba pang hayop.
- Uminom ng post exposure prophylaxis kontra leptospirosis tulad ng Doxycycline sa loob ng 24-72 oras matapos ang exposure sa baha.

- Pananakit ng ulo
- Panginginig
- Pagsusuka
- Paninilaw ng balat
- Pamumula ng mata
- Pananakit ng tiyan
- Stomachache
- Pagtatae
- Rashes
Huwag balewalain ang mga sintomas ng Leptospirosis. Agad na magpatingin sa pinakamalapit na health center o ospital.
