The Quezon City Government will be continuing its “Car-Free, Carefree Sundays” along Tomas Morato Avenue, a monthly event dedicated to promoting active mobility and creating a safe, open space for residents and visitors to enjoy recreational activities.
Based on Ordinance N. SP-3345, S-2024, a portion of Tomas Morato Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic giving way to pedestrians, joggers, and cyclists. The initiative aims to foster an active lifestyle, reduce vehicular emissions, and create a cleaner, greener urban environment.
The road closure covers Tomas Morato Avenue from Timog Avenue to Don Alejandro Roces Avenue. Traffic rerouting is in effect, and motorists are advised to check the official Quezon City Government Facebook page for more information on the new traffic scheme.
There are two phases:
Phase 1 will be enforced every 1st Sunday of each month from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM;
After one year, Phase 2 will be implemented and the scheme will be enforced every other Sunday of the month.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized the program’s goals: “Car-Free Sundays reflect our vision of a sustainable, people-first Quezon City. We want to encourage outdoor activities, promote healthy living, and support our commitment to environmental sustainability.”
