The local government of Quezon City has opened the QC Protection Center, which provides medical, psychological, police, and legal assistance to victims of gender-based violence and abuse to all women, children, and LGBTQ members of the city. This one-stop shop acts upon case management more effectively and holistically.
QCPC entails the creation of various comprehensive programs, including the construction of Bahay Kanlungan, that will further establish a multitude of critical care and services to assist the victims’ process of healing, recovery, rehabilitation, and even their reintegration with their families.
Bahay Kanlungan
Bahay Kanlungan is the first local government unit (LGU)-run shelter for abused women, children, and LGBTQs, serving as a highlight to the city’s commemoration of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW).
This safe refuge gives a temporary shelter for victim-survivors of gender-based violence and abuse. Those admitted in the shelter shall be processed at the hospital-based QC Protection Center in Barangay Bahay Toro, and if needed, referred to the shelter for up to twelve (12) weeks.
The shelter has sixty (60) beds dedicated for women, children, and LGBTs, an activity area, a reading hub, and a playroom available for kids. The center will also have wifi and a learning area for children who need to attend online classes, and a livelihood training center for women and LGBTs supported by SPARK! Philippines and the Philippine Commission on Women.
As of April 2025, QC Protection Center has already served 1,146 clients, and 437 clients have also been given shelter and protection through Bahay Kanlungan since 2019.
