The Quezon City local government has embarked on a new initiative to further promote active mobility, environmental sustainability and create a safe space for QCitizens through “Car-Free, Carefree Sundays” along Tomas Morato.
Under the ordinance, the portion of Tomas Morato Avenue from Scout Rallos to Don Alejandro Roces Avenue is closed for vehicles to give way to the residents, visitors, pedestrians, joggers and cyclists who would like to enjoy the open space and participate in various recreational activities.
The ordinance is split-up into two-phases:
Phase 1 will be administered every 1st Sunday of each month from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM and after a year, the Phase 2 will be executed every other Sunday of the month.
This monthly event also encourages every QCitizen to engage in an active lifestyle, and reduce vehicular emissions for a cleaner and greener urban environment. In addition, with this ordinance, the city government is able to support the growth of businesses and enterprises around the area.
