The Quezon City Public Library (QCPL), in partnership with Jellyfish Education, Inc., offers free Basic Japanese Language Classes where participants learn the essentials of the Japanese language and culture, including grammar, vocabulary, expressions, and the basics of the Hiragana and Katakana writing systems.
Through this class, participants are expected to gain a holistic learning experience, which encompasses insights into Japanese customs, etiquette, and even cultural practices for free.
The program was established and opened to the public in May 2019 with 20-30 students per class. In September 2020, classes were transitioned to online, which can accommodate up to 500 students.
This initiative is part of the city’s commitment to making education more inclusive and accessible for all, as well as promoting lifelong learning and strengthening cross-cultural understanding.
As of 2025, a total of 3,642 students have graduated from the Free Japanese Language Program since its launch.
