The local government of Quezon City through the Quezon City Health Department opened its Health Center Pharmacies.  Like other city health centers, medicines such as vitamins and maintenance medicines are free for all the city’s indigent residents.

Medicines for cough, colds, fever and vitamins are all available.  Even maintenance medicine such as Metformin, Losartan, Amlodipine and Simvastatin are also being made available.

The new pharmacy management utilizes the ‘utilization-based’ system which uses usage and disposal for its inventory system.  This ensures citizens that medicines will not run out nor will they be expired.

The pharmacy will also be computerized which allows the government to monitor residents with the ‘unclaimed allocation’ and to make necessary steps like doorstep delivery for bedridden citizens.

Quezon City has 66 health centers and will be open to all QCitizens. To avail of the free medicines,  the patient has to undergo physical check up by the health center’s in-house doctor.  The doctor will then give the appropriate prescription for the ailment.

If the medicine required is not available at the health center, the patient will be referred to the Social Services Development Department (SSDD) for medical assistance.
