The Quezon City Government sets up its own molecular laboratory that processes the samples from the city’s coronavirus disease (COVID-19) community testing center. Approved for operation by DOH, the laboratory can process 500 to 1000 tests per day with only one to two days turnaround time.
Megaworld Corporation has been one of the primary donors and has provided support in the retrofitting of an unused building in Barangay Teacher’s Village East and purchase equipment and supplies for the molecular laboratory.
The laboratory can process not only COVID-19 tests but also other medical tests like tuberculosis, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and dengue.
Various equipment has also been acquired by the city from donations of the private sector. Aside from the laboratory itself, the three-floor building has its own area for data encoding, and sleeping quarters for the workers assigned in the facility.
The QC Molecular Laboratory is manned by twenty (20) City Health Department (CHD) personnel from medical technologists, pathologists, laboratory manager, and other manpower support who underwent training for the highly technical requirements of the laboratory at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
