The Quezon City Government through the Persons With Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) and QC Kabahagi Center provides free assistive devices for persons with disabilities such as persons with orthopedic, hearing, speech, and visual impairment, among others.
This is to fulfill the city’s commitment to the promotion of the mobility and functioning of PWDs and their integration in the mainstream society.
The assistive devices that were given included ordinary and electric wheelchairs, white canes, walkers, eyeglasses, hearing aids, prostheses, and crutches.
Distribution of Hearing Aids to Adults and Children
The city government has partnered with Ear Access and ACCESS Canada Brand Hearing Aid in distributing hearing aids. To further monitor hearing among the young, the children also undergo testing in daycare centers and be given appropriate action if found to have hearing impairment.
Splint For Children With Disability
Splints that are attached to the body to support the joints and the muscles to make the child mobile have also been given free at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay – Philippine School of Prosthetics and Orthotics for the Children with Disability.
Provision of Prosthesis
The provision of prosthesis to the beneficiaries comes with free post-rehabilitation therapy at the Quezon City General Hospital. Processes for both splint and prosthesis include careful and meticulous assessment and measurement to ensure that the wearer will be comfortable in the device.
As of March 2025, the local government has already distributed a total of four thousand one-hundred sixteen (4,116) assistive devices to four thousand eighty-two (4082) indigent Persons with Disabilities beneficiaries.
