The Quezon City Government’s City Bus Program serves as a vital means of transportation to thousands of commuters daily as it offers free rides and helps ease traffic congestion.
The program was institutionalized on June 2023 after Mayor Joy Belmonte signed Ordinance No. SP-8134 s-2023, introduced by Councilors Alfred Vargas and Ram Medalla.
In 2020, Belmonte established this pioneering initiative to provide free transportation to QCitizens amid the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic that severely limited public transportation in Metro Manila. During its inception, a Memorandum of Agreement was established with the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to facilitate its implementation.
The bus program is open to the public during its initial run but will eventually become exclusive for QC residents with QCitizen ID.
Further, the program is poised to help ease traffic congestion in Quezon City as it enables productive use of limited road space with its capacity to transport dozens of commuters at a time. It also follows a bus trip schedule and buses stop only at designated pick-up and drop-off points along their routes.
The on-ground operations of the program is spearheaded by the Traffic and Transport Management Department, led by Mr. Dexter Cardenas.
