The Quezon City Government has built the Tandang Sora Women’s Museum to honor and commemorate the country’s “Ina ng Katipunan at Himagsikan” – Melchora Aquino de Ramos, or Tandang Sora.
Under the Tandang Sora section, the museum houses the biography of Tandang Sora and why she was named ‘Ina ng Katipunan at Himagsikan”. It also contains the different artifacts – items she used in her daily life.
Aside from Tandang Sora, the museum also displays the diverse stories of women who fought for the country’s freedom, from the Babaylans to women of the revolution, to the contemporary women’s movement, as evidence of our ongoing documentation of these stories.
Through this museum, Tandang Sora’s virtues, particularly her courage in helping the Katipuneros, were highlighted. It also aims to exhibit the continuous ‘HerStorical’ efforts to raise every woman’s state of living and their contributions to nation-building.
The museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm, Tuesday to Sunday, located at the Tandang Sora Shrine.
As of June 2025, under the Republic Act No. 12218, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially declared January 6 of every year a special working holiday in Quezon City in celebration and commemoration of the birth anniversary of Melchora Aquino, which will also be known as Tandang Sora Day.
