The Quezon City Government through the Quezon City Veterinary Department launched a program to convert stray animals into service dogs.
All dogs rescued and/or surrendered by their owners are listed as candidates for rehabilitation and adoption to become pets of QCitizen families, emotional support dogs, or even explosive detection dogs.
The dogs will undergo comprehensive assessment, health check, and even temperament test to determine suitability as pet or community service canine.
They will also be screened for common disease conditions such as Parvovirus, Distemper, Transmissible Venereal Tumor, and Mange & Parasitism. Only healthy dogs will be qualified for the Rehabilitation and Adoption Program. The city has already partnered with the Quezon City Police Department and Bureau of Fire Protection to be the first recipients of selected sheltered dogs that they will further train as drug-bomb sniffing and rescue dogs.
For QCitizens who would like to adopt or surrender, check out the guides on How to Adopt a Pet and How to Surrender/ Request Pickup of Animals.
