The Quezon City Government, through the Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD), has launched the Project Zero Waste Public Market.
This focuses on composting biodegradable waste and recycling non-biodegradable waste, fostering a cheaper waste disposal solution.
Under the program, the city government has distributed rapid composting machines (RCM) to barangay public markets, including Kamuning, Murphy, and Project 4 Public Market.
There are also coco-pot making machines, which transform waste from coconuts into eco-friendly cocopots.
In addition, a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that turns waste products into reusable materials was constructed to house the Kamuning Public Market RCM.
As of May 2026, a total of 172,511.43 kg of market waste has been collected, where 84,702.25 kg of waste has been diverted to compost fertilizers.
This initiative is part of the city’s commitment to promoting sustainable waste management practices, reducing landfill reliance, and fostering a cleaner and greener environment following MJB’s 14-point agenda to build a livable, green, and sustainable city.
